How it works

The Consult
It all begins with an idea. Depending on the piece, it might require a research period if there isn’t a lot of source material. Each commission will be entirely different, and that’s why it’s so important to make sure it’s all talked through on the call so that we begin the project with a clear and detailed plan.

The Size
The size really impacts the work. Smaller images blown up can have a completely different dynamic in the final product. Similarly, it’s a discredit to the piece to try and fill in the blanks when the resized image has blurry areas that need to be visually filled in. Make sure the size of the reference image has enough detail for the final painting size.

The Reference
The development stage of the commission will vary depending on what reference images you have. If we’re not working from a set photograph then I will have to gather or carry out study drawings. My fees all accounts for this precious time in the lead up to starting the finished piece.

The Frame
A bespoke frame can be a brilliant final touch to the impact of a commission, or you can go plain and simple to let the painting sing. Whatever options you have for the piece depending on your budget, I can talk you through the entire process and also recommend the best framers in Dublin.
